About Us

About Our Store

At five years of age, we are joining with our mentor and protective big brother from Barrington Street (John W. Doull) and moving across the harbour to 122 Main Street in Dartmouth.

It will be quite the move for both of us and because we each have different strengths and passions, to be together under one roof can only make us both better!

However ...We can tell you we are striving to be (and think we are accomplishing) an amazing old-fashioned shop with two storeys of new, used, and rare books and book-related art prints, giftware, and stationery. We are always interested in purchasing quality used and antiquarian books from estates, academic collections, libraries, and, of course, from our customers who keep us in business!

We are not quite ready for business yet, but soon!  And will be open Monday - Saturday, from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

We are also the Canadian distributor for the wonderful Weck canning jars.  For more information, please visit our Weck website.

Where We Are

We are located at 122 Main Street in Dartmouth, just past the first set of lights on Gordon and just before Long & McQuade Music.

What We Do

We are a broad-spectrum, general bookshop with a special interest in selling children's books, travel writings & adventures, women's studies, books on homesteading/self-sufficiency, the environment, and Canadian fiction. If you are searching for a book currently in print that we don't have in stock, special orders are usually available with prompt delivery. We are happy to search for hard to find, out of print books as well! Please feel free to call, email, or fill out our online "Book Requests" form with the details.

As well, we offer appraisals of collections for insurance, tax, and other purposes. Please contact us for more details.

What We Buy

We are always interested in purchasing quality used and antiquarian books from estates, academic collections, libraries, and, of course, from our customers who keep us in business! We seek old & new, big & little, solid books to flimsy ephemera (maps, prints, autographs, periodicals, pamphlets, old sheet music, etc.) As a cautionary note, never toss out anything of a paper nature without having us or another reputable bookseller advise you first. Something that may seem worthless to you may be a treasure to someone else!

For substantial or promising unusual collections, we will travel at least anywhere in the Maritime provinces.

What We Don't Buy

There are some things, however, in which we are not interested: ~ Most old textbooks ~ Reader's Digest condensed books ~ Romance novels ~ Stripped covers (paperback books with no front cover) ~ Books with excessive notes or highlighting ~ Water-damaged or moldy books ~ Most encyclopedias ~ Anything we feel we cannot resell.

If you are interested in selling, no appointment is necessary for small numbers of books, but a call in advance would be appreciated. For larger collections or unusual items, appointments or house calls can be arranged. Thank you for thinking of us!
