Happy Birthday to us!! We are one year old this month (July 17th to be exact)! THANK YOU to all our customers for your support & encouragement! It has been a memorable first year, and we only anticipate it getting better! Thank you!
Wow! The first year has flown by! There have been ups and there have been downs, but I think mostly ups and heading in a great direction.
I have been so encouraged by customers coming into the shop! You let me know how much you approve of what has been accomplished so far - and also what more you want! :)
Right now, I'm grateful that "the bones" of the shop are in place (I think!!) and now I'm building more on suggestions of the niche specialties for which people are asking.

I also want to send a HUGE "THANK YOU" to John Doull of "JWD's" on Barrington Street.
For the patrons of both shops, you know we split our stock and genres between our two stores - so what one store has, the other tends not to carry. I have all the children's books for both stores (for example), because it's a favourite section of mine; he has all the nautical books (fiction & non-fiction) because that has been a specialty of his for years. I have four shelves of cookbooks (because I love to cook and just can't give them up) - but John has three HUGE floor-to-ceiling bookcases of cookbooks. And so on.
Because we are so close (we can stand out our front doors & wave to one another), it's easy to refer customers back & forth.
John and his staff have been incredible at telling people about The Jade W, referring people here, and even coming up to check on me in case I need a break. :) They are outstanding & a very big part of why I'm here. THANK YOU!!
PS - Definitely check out his shop - it's huge & there are goodies everywhere. For you serious collectors, please visit his website; there are more treasures there that you will never see by just visiting his store. He has been in the book business for almost 30 years, is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers of Canada, and really knows his stuff!

Also ... now might be a good time to answer those who ask why I don't have a blog or Facebook page, or even have more books listed on the website.
Honestly, right now I'm still pretty much a one-woman organisation and there are simply not enough hours in the day. I'm trying to concentrate on shelving stock & keeping the store tidy (a daunting task!), ordering new books, keeping up on my reading (the phrase "Too many books, too little time" was invented for a reason!) and the face-to-face (or email-to-email) service of the customers who keep me in business.
I would love to do more, and I'm hoping that will happen in this coming year. (And volunteers are welcome!!) :) |
