1 Les Stoodley Tales from the Landwash: Short Stories of Newfoundland
Shediac, New Brunswick L & M Cosmos 2007 978-0-9783232-0-2 First NEW Trade Paperback
A collection of "creative non-fiction" - the stories are true, but some of the names or identifying details have been changed.

Some of the chapter titles are Froze Stiff, The Old Age Pension Cheques, The Hand Knit Gloves, and The Fisherman and the President.

Les Stoodley is well known for his work in both television and radio. He was the mobile reporter on Information Morning, host of Reach for the Top, the first host of Land & Sea, host of Radio Noon & host of the musical "oldies" program "Solid Gold Sunday".

He is fiercely proud of his Newfoundland heritage and he writes because, in his words, "Newfoundland stories have always held a special fascination for me. I readily admit to being captivated by stories and storytellers. As a child, I absorbed like a dry sponge, fishermen's tales of their adventures at sea. Incredible stories of lost men and dories on the Grand Banks or heroic deeds on the spring ice flows off the Northern Peninsula triggered my already active imagination.

I've marveled at the strength and perseverance of Newfoundlanders who have faced life's cruel obstacles with dignity and in many cases, humour.

With a strong need to hold on to the past, since it is a barometer to guide us in the future, I have attempted to show the courage and tenacity of people I knew and loved. Here are some of their stories."
