Visiting Halifax?
For those unfamiliar with the Canadian dollar, an international currency converter
There are LOTS of great local shops in Halifax, reflecting a wide range of interests & tastes. This list will only continue to grow, so keep checking back, but for now:
Elephant's Eye Decor & Cafe: I've never had a meal here I didn't love - and I especially enjoy breakfast, with homemade scones & jam, sitting in the Barrington Street front window watching people go by on their way to work, or tucked in the back, reading & preparing for the day. Lunch for me always includes a salad with their maple-curry dressing. Yum!
Jennifer's of Nova Scotia: "Nova Scotia in a shop" - everything from thrummed mittens to stained glass to jewelry to partridge-berry jam, it's here, made exclusively in the Maritimes and almost entirely in Nova Scotia.
The Loop Craft Cafe: A bright shop, perfect for learning a new technique, picking up some exotic handspun yarn, or enrolling in a workshop.
"Finally, an online travel resource just for women" - Journeywoman is a FABULOUS resource for women traveling anywhere in the world! Wondering where the best bookstore is in your destination city? :) What is culturally (or weather) appropriate clothing to wear? Where to stay? How to find a guide? Journeywoman has all this and more - travel tips, stories from women on the move ... a great, great resource.
One caution about the site; it's very easy to go from page to page to page to page ... only stopping hours later! Make sure you leave time to really browse!
Favourite Products & Suppliers
Taproot Farms - Located in Kings County (Annapolis Valley - about an hour from Halifax); I've been one of their CSA members since they began and starting April 2011, The Jade *W* will also be a drop-off location. I can't say enough good things about them; they are committed to sustainably growing a wide variety of healthy food for everyone and they do a tremendous job.
E-Sword - FREE Bible study software! Fully functional AND easy to use! (I know, it may seem odd for a bookseller to recommend this - but I really do like it! And it's especially useful to take to Bible studies on a laptop! :)
Readerware - Fastest & easiest way to catalogue books, music, and movies/DVDs & they have great technical support!
Chrislands - Designing web sites for booksellers since 2001. I have used them three times myself, have recommended them to others, and we have all been very pleased. They take care in designing your site to reflect your personality and make selling online easy for even the not-so-technically inclined. Great product, great service, great deal!
